The firefighting industry is under attack. There\u2019s a silent threat stalking these brave men and women long after the flames of a structure fire have been extinguished. Over the last decade or so, we\u2019ve learned that a cornucopia of carcinogens can reside in bunker gear.<\/p>\n

A recent article published in American Laundry News looked at the impact cancer has had on the firefighting ranks and the various changes in how gear is handled. Bill Brooks,\u00a0UniMac\u2019s<\/a>\u00a0North American sales manager and also a firefighter, weighs in for the article and sizes up the threat.<\/p>\n

\u201cToday, we know the dangers that lurk in the gear,\u201d Brooks says. \u201cOurs is a dangerous profession, and that danger lives on in our soot-covered gear well after the flames are extinguished.\u201d<\/p>\n

The article looks at how\u00a0technology<\/a>\u00a0is a key tool in the fight against cancer in firefighters and streamlines documentation that gear is being cleaned and maintained properly in accordance with\u00a0NFPA 1851<\/a>\u00a0guidelines.<\/p>\n
